The Internet Rules PDF Print E-mail

This isn't really Apple or Mac related, but I though I'd post it anyway. What if I said the internet was a better educator than public school or college? Many of you would probably disagree, but I just finished my first year of college this morning and I believe this is so. I learned very little in my college courses, don't get me wrong, they were mostly intro courses and are sure to get more difficult, however I did not feel the lessons I learned were worth the tuition I paid. Throughout my semesters I found myself resorting to the internet to learn what the instructors failed to teach. I've always learned from the internet, and the internet covers absolutely everything nowadays, tell me of something you CAN'T find information on on the internet. I learn much more from the internet even when I'm just surfing, than I did in any college course I've taken thus far. Yes, their are intricacies and arguments you could pose against this, but consider your dollar value; the internet is free, college expenses are through the roof! But I can't quit college because it's all part of "working the system" and a degree is becoming a more common requirement in the job market. It's weird how the world works, but always remember, the internets out their and a perfect opportunity to educate yourself, for free! Take advantage of it, maybe you can save yourself a ton of student debt!

What happened to Dashboard? PDF Print E-mail

Remember back in the tiger days when Dashboard was completely new? If you were fortunate enough to use the feature when developer's were still making widgets and things like iStat Pro, my calendar and even sticky notes you can understand why i'm upset the feature is dying!! it is an excellent idea, a quick overlay of information at the toggle of a button, it's customizable in every way. When the feature was new and people were just using it there were new widgets out every few days, now you search and search and they're the same old widgets. Am I the only one noticing the decline of dashboard? I'd like to see some new widgets!!!

DVICE PDF Print E-mail

I  wanted to share with you an obsession I've had for years, and that is dvice.com. Specifically the iPhone app, but the browser based website is just as good. DVICE is similar to Engadget in the sense that it surrounds technology and geeky interests. It can be broad at times, but since it's authors share your interests they simply write articles on things they find interesting. Therefore there's new articles on a daily basis and most of the time they're all appealing. Rarely do you find an article that isn't a good read. It's also written in a laid back manner that makes their articles a joy to read. I'm also not a big reader, so the brief explanations are the perfect length to understand the subject, and if you have a free minute here or there, you can bust an article or two out. When I became a DVICE addict (trust me, I know many of them), I quit playing games on my iPhone, and dedicate all my free phone time to DVICE. I even read DVICE when I poop! I've referred DVICE to a few friends who share similar interests, and even friends who just need some good reading. Everyone I've gotten to download their app has gotten hooked. It keeps you up to date with all the latest tech news and rumors, and the longer your a DVICE fan the more educated you are in the technology world. If I had one app recommendation for anyone with a smartphone, that would be to download DVICE. It's a 2 star rating in the App Store, but I promise it's underrated. Give it shot, I promise you'll get hooked. Feel free to submit your own app recommendations here too!

CISPA and It's Supporters Can Blow Me PDF Print E-mail

If your reading this you probably know about SOPA and more recently, CISPA, or the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act. Protection my ass, the United States government is spinning out of control. I can't understand why this is even a controversial issue, or why it passed the House of Rep's with a comfortable margin of 248 to 168, but it IS and it's making it's way to the supreme court. I don't think many people understand that if the government gains any control of the internet it's all downhill from there. After the first amendment is made permitting even the slightest government-internet interaction, another bill will be passed and another one after until Big Brother is unstoppable. CISPA is the first step for our government to take on the role of Big Brother. The bill would allow the NSA and the military to spy on Americans, you can kiss your privacy goodbye. "CISPA would "waive every single privacy law ever enacted in the name of cybersecurity," Rep. Jared Polis, a Colorado Democrat and onetime Web entrepreneur, said during the debate. "Allowing the military and NSA to spy on Americans on American soil goes against every principle this country was founded on." Thankfully at least one man still has his sanity, whereas assholes like this are involved in our government for some reason: "Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Mich.), the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee and author of CISPA, responded by telling his colleagues to ignore "all the things they're saying about the bill that are not true." He pleaded: "Stand for America! Support this bill!"" - Now I don't know if this would be considered treason, but this man needs to be shot. Mike Rogers, who elected you as chairman of the House Intelligence Committee? You seem to lack any intelligence at all! I was appalled when I read that this bill was passed its first step into becoming law. To all Americans: Get your head out of your ass, let's take back control of our government and tell them they can't have control of our internet! It's about spreading the word, if people don't know about these bills they can't object! Share the news, let's keep our internet privacy!

iPad 2 PDF Print E-mail

Apple recently announced the iPad 2, which brings a few upgrades to the table. A faster processor, front and back Facetime camera's and an aluminum back, to name a few. It wasn't exactly a major update, as most of us wanted a higher resolution screen, which was not announced. Hopefully they'll upgrade the screen with the iPad 3, but rumors will cover that soon enough. I was wondering what you guys thought of the iPad 2, is it another apple product that's all hype? or is it another landmark? And if you ask me, I thought (excluding the new processor) the SmartCover was the coolest announcement at the Apple Event. Another overpriced "case" that doesn't really protect the product. Well done Apple. Although it is pretty sweet, and sexy, and it works great with the sleep on/off function. Let me know what you guys think of the announcement.
